Copying & Sorting Data Between 2 Sheets

    Hello All

I'm fairly new to using excel so apologies if there is a fairly straightforward solution to my problem.

I have a workbook with 2 sheets. I am mimicking data from the 1st sheet to the 2nd sheet using the = formula (e.g.=Sheet1!B12).

On Sheet 2, I am inputting fresh 'raw' data in the same row as the copied data from Sheet 1 as this data is relevant.

The data on Sheet 1 is always changing so I use the A-Z sorting tool to help me organise the data. However, when I do this, the mimicked data on Sheet 2 is the only data that sorts A-Z. The 'raw' data I input on Sheet 2 does not sort with the mimicked data from Sheet 1.

Is there a way of locking the rows on Sheet 2, so that when I A-Z sort the data on Sheet 1, the 'raw' inputted data on Sheet 2 sorts with it.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Regards

    FinnyMac

Re: Copying & Sorting Data Between 2 Sheets

Here's one way. Add ore data to sheet1, columns A&B. look at Sheet 2. It reflects sheet 1. Then sort Sheet 1. Look at sheet2. it still reflects sheet 1. the formulae in sheet 2 are array formulae.

Array Formulae are a little different from ordinary formulas in that they MUST be confirmed by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER.

You will know the array is active when you see curly braces { } appear around the outside of your formula. If you do not CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will (almost always) get an error message or an incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

Don't type the curly braces yourself - it won't work...

If this isn't exactly what you need... will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? Please don't attach a picture of one.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.
