It has been very slow around here lately. I wonder if that's due to the holiday season or if it's due to people being fed up with the site performance.

    Hi Biff,

I happened to have joined within a few minutes of you on New Years Eve 5 years ago, and with nearly 13,000 posts I suppose I have a posting rate of about 2/3rds of yours, though it comes in fits and starts with me. You were always more prolific than me on the old newsgroups, so you have continued with that.

Another useful measure would be reps/post - for me that is 0.4923 currently.

    Merry Christmas.

    Hi Ford,

I saw an increase after, in my first year, I swallowed my pride and solicited rep. Before I did that I was getting about 1:4

    LOL, Tony!

That's what happens when I have a lazy day with nothing much else to do. Quite a few of those posts were mod-related, though, or signing off a thread after being thanked, which is why post count is pretty meaningless in the greater scheme of things. Just wait until I'm retired!!!

Where do you find these stats, anyway?

Re: Who needs to get a life?

The site seems to lurch from one low point to an even lower one. Is it performance-related? It certainly has put me off coming along as often as I did. That said, i am making a conscious effort NOT to spend excessive amounts of time here - there's too much else to do.

However, could it also be the increased uptake of freebies like Google sheets, is leading to a loss of "casual spreadsheet users" from the site? An increasing proportion of the Forum's posters that are serious "Excellers" might also explain the increased proportion of posts that are in the VBA sub-forum.

Re: Who needs to get a life?

There are other forums that do well to see five posts a day in total!

Certainly the performance of these forums and frequent appearance of the Sucuri page are off-putting, but traffic is still pretty good. I was online for much of yesterday (as pointed out by Tony!), and there was a steady stream of new posts here. Mr Excel was marginally busier, I would say.

About 3 years ago, the traffic here was substantially higher than it is today - and not by a few percentage points. Double or treble what it is now.

I have seen the same decline in traffic on other forums I frequent and have been a part of for over ten years (not Excel-related) - I wonder if the social media revolution has something to do with it?

Perhaps people are just getting better at using Google to research their issues. The forum would never be my first port of call for an answer ... although, when I have resorted to it, it invariably helps enormously.

Well. I, for one, am about to get some life back. I'm busy stuffing my backpack with mozzie repellant, antimalarials and tshirts. It's time to leave the dreary UK weather behind and spend some time being a bum in "off the beaten track" Thailand before heading to Viet Nam just after Tet. Sadly, I do have to bring my laptop (most of my work is www based). But if the weather will be kind to us, I'll probably leave only a very small footprint here until sometime in March.

    Well done, Ali.

I just happened to reach 13,001 on New Years Eve, which was exactly 5 years after I joined - so, an average of 2,600 posts per year.
