2007: Macros enabled but 'record macro' is grayed out

I have excel 2007 and I want to record a macro. I have enabled all macros via the Trust Center settings and have even saved the current workbook (created from scratch in 2007) to a macro-enabled version.

But when I click on the 'developer' toolbar, 'record macro' is grayed out. I can't figure out why.

    Thanks for your help

    4am,

Not sure if this is your issue, but I had a similar problem and found out (after a fairly extensive search) that two settings (Digital Certificate for VBA Projects and Visiual Basic for Applications) from the Installation Options tab had the Not Available option selected when the application was installed.

When these where changed to Run from My Computer the Record Macro (and all other VBA functionality) was OK.

    HTH

Simple but often missed VB fix and macro enabling:

    1. Use MSO2007 Installation **.

    2. Make sure the "Visual Basic for Applications" option is installed:

    + Office Shared Features
    + Visual Basic for Applications

    3. Enable macros:

Click on: The Office Button | Excel Options | Trust Center | Trust Center Settings (Button on Right) | Macro Settings

Make sure you "Enable all Macros"

Ignore that piece of advice. One malicious macro and you'll get to spend a week rebuilding your computer and six months recovering your identity.

Set it to Disable all macros with notication.

Sometimes I forget I have a macro running that hit a break point while in debug mode. You may need to stop a running macro.

Thanks, that solved it. The components were not installed.
