Converting old xls files to xlsx with million + rows

I have several older excel files (xls) that I have saved as "xlsx" files but the max rows still stay at 65,536. How can I increase the number of rows in these files to the new max number of 1,048,576? Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

    Hello,

I think you have to Download the MS Office Compatibility Pack from :--

I checked the link that you gave me but if I understand it correctly the "compatibility program" only allows older versions of Office to open 2007 files.

My situation is different. I am using Excel 2007 and have opened numerous spreadsheets that were created in earilier versions(xls) and then saved them as "xlsx". Problem is the max number of rows & columns never increases to the million+ rows that are standard in 2007 files. How do I increase the rows and columns to the new max? Thanks

After you save the file, close and re-open.
