    Exclamation Error Message problem

    Hi,

I am having a problem with all excel documents created by a specific user on one specific computer. Every time i close on of the documents created by this user, the following error message appears: "Cannot find F:\....\Ngdeessb.xla'!Local_Close_Sheet, which has been assigned to run each time [*Files Name*.xls]Sheet1 is closed. Continuing could cause errors. Cancel closing {*Files name*.xls]Sheet1?"

I thought this problem may be something to do with a macro that is set to run but there are no macros on this spreadsheet and the same message appears when I disbale macros via the excel security settings.

does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this.

    Thanks in advance,

    Raj

    Re: Error Message problem

There is vba code somewhere in the spreadsheet. It may not be a macro per se...but a code attached to the sheet itself possibly. It sounds like there is a command to update a file, upon closing of the spreadsheet, that is either not on your computer or on a drive you don't have access to or is not labelled the same as the creators. I would go back to the creator, if possible, to see what they've done.

You could try to set your macro security to medium to see if it prompts you at the point of opening the file...this should catch any code I believe.

    Thank you for your response.

Unfortuantely the creator is an ex-colleague of mine and I am now stuck with these errors in the project work. So this code could merely be written in a cell... because this is actually on all spreadsheets that he has created?

    Found it...

Open the spreadsheet...click on INSERT -> Name -> DEFINE

Locate in the list - AUTO SAVE SHEET and delete it.

    That should work

Brilliant that solves the issue perfectly. Thank you very much. out of curiosity do you know how this problem would occur, could it be in a user's preferences to automatically occur by any chance? Dont worry if you don't know.

Thank you so much for helping with this,

    Re: Error Message problem

This was a creator defined process for the spreadsheet - that I am assuming the creator attached to all of his spreadsheets to update his versions maybe? Since it wasn't a macro exactly - but a defined process, the macro security settings won't catch it.
