    Function CountA not working... Why????

The function, CountA, is not working on my spreadsheet. The result of the function is to count all cells within the range. When I click on cells and press delete, the function then works.

I have copied and pasted the data to Excel from an Access database. I have also named the range of cells to be used in functions. I think it probably has something to do with copying and pasting the data from Access as other non-named columns also do not work.

    Any ideas?

    See attachment for example.....

The values aren't true blanks (as you discovered yourself)

Given the values are strings you can use: =COUNTIF(A:A,"?*")
(less one if you wish to exclude header)
