Red face Excel '07 Compatbility Mode "on"

Hi....I opened up an old excel file sent to me (not sure what version) now my excel 2007 is in 'compatibility mode'. I cannot do anything in the workbook everything is grayed out. Please advise how I can get out of compatibility mode. Thanks

You should only be in compatibility mode when working with that particular file. (or others in the same format)

If you use the Office button > Convert , you will convert the file format to the new xlm based structure and the non applicable functions should return.

If everything is grayed out I wonder if you also have the workbook protected.

thank you. I went to the office button but, do not see an option to Convert. Also, the save, save as is still grayed out. Am I looking in the wrong place?
I am not sure why several prompts are still grayed out and not allowing access. I have not protected the file.

Can you confirm that the grayed-out state is only present when this workbook is open?

Is it possible to post the workbook. (PM me if you want to share off thread due to workbook containing sensitive data)
