Format Painter Not Working

Can someone help?

I use Excel all the time and my Format Painter will not work. Neither does Ctrl Shift C, Ctrl Shift V.

Excel seems to open in Compatibility Mode every time now and I never noticed it doing that before.

Can someone provide feedback as to what is going on and / or guide me to fix these issues.

Is there perhaps a macro which is disabling copy and paste?

Upload your workbook so that we can take a look. Compatibility mode simply means you're opening an .xls file with a 2007/2010 application.

Hi There, I decided to join up to Excel forum because I noticed the above person seems to have a similar problem to me.

I know quite a lot about excel and I use it a lot. My mum has asked me to help her with a problem she is having which I have never come across before.

When I try to copy a formular from one cell to another it doesn't work. It just copies the value and not the formula. If I use the "fill" funtion by dragging down the square in the bottom right hand corner of the cell it DOES work - the formula does copy down. But when I copy and paste it only copies the value. I also noticed that when I press copy (or Ctrl +C) the squiggly dotted line does not appear around the cell I am copying as it usually does.

Then after fiddling around with it for a while I also noticed that the format painter is not working either.

Mum was working on 2003 and I thought it might be a glitch with that version. So I have upgraded her to 2010 and the problem is still happening. When I open these spreadsheets on other computers it all works perfectly.

This is having an impact on the copying of all different things. Paste Special values function is also not working it only gives the option of "Unicode Text" and "Text".

Have you ever heard anything like this and are able to shed some light on this?

Does your mom perhaps have the Skype click to call plug in installed? There have been a bunch of reports in the MS Answers forum recently of this preventing Paste Special from working.

JosephP, you just saved me a lot of time. Was looking and looking for a solution to the same problem as described above. Stumbled onto this thread, read your reply, uninstalled Skype Click-to-Call and problem solved! Would never have made the link myself...

There are probably 10 or more threads within this forum relating to the Skype issue, too, not just out on the interwebs. Use the Search utility, folks, it's your friend!

I had the same problem and came across this post. I would have never thought Skype Click to Call would have interfered with the paste feature of excel, but as soon as I uninstalled the Click to Call, paste special and format painter was back to acting normally again. Thanks so much!

Skype Click-to-Call uninstalled, all fixed. 'Fer crying out loud. BTW, it's not just format painter but anything using the clipboard. Control-C, Control-V wouldn't copy the format either, but now it does again. You know, I was about to be fair and say that it's probably Skype's fault, but then I remembered that Microsoft now OWNS Skype. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Hi I have exactly the same problem and thinking about it I didn't have the problem when I first joined the Company in February, but since? I installed Skype I do have the same problem though it is intermittent. Do I actually have to un-install Skype? As i need it or is there another solution i.e not being logged in? Please help as this is causing me alot of lost time.

I can't see the link, but by pure coincidence have updated my Skype earlier today when asked if I wanted to update it and I have just tried copy/paste, which appears to be working at present so fingers crossed.

JosephP - I was looking for a solution for the same problem. I just uninstalled "Skype to call", I restarted my pc and it worked! Now I can used the "pinter format" again. Thank you JosephP! You are awesome!

I found that the problem went away when I uninstalled ClipBoardFusion which is part of the BinaryFortress suite.
