    Spreadsheet Dilemma

This website for Excel tips seems to be a wonderful place to learn and enhance skills in Excel but I have not found a solution to my dilemma. I have somehow locked my spreadsheet as if it were on Scroll Lock. I did something with the mouse that caused it to happen but I have not been successful in any attempt to unlock the spreadsheet. The cursor goes out of control in either direction right to left as well as up and down, selecting all cells from the starting point of Row 469, Column C. There is a box which shows how many rows and columns have been selected from that starting point (65057R x 2C). The only way I can get out of the spreadsheet is to use Control-Alt-Delete and End the Task in the Windows Task Manager. I have rebooted the computer but so far nothing has worked. None of the keystrokes work -- can't type, can't use the arrow keys, can't Escape, can't use any of the toolbar functions or Help. This problem continues in any spreadsheet I open and the cursor continues to move up and down even if I am not currently using the spreadsheet but continue to have it open, such as now while I am on the Internet.

Do you see EXT in the status bar at the bottom.

Hit F8 a few times to see it (and leave it toggled off).

There have been suggestions to click the mouse buttons--including the wheel
mouse button (like it could be stuck).

David McRitchie has some notes about this kind of trouble at:

    Maybe it'll help you.
