How do I change column identifiers from numbers to letters?

My excel columns somehow reverted to numbers instead of letters. How can I
change the format back to letters?

Go to Tools -> Options... -> General tab
Unselect the setting that contains R1C1... Normally at the upper left. (Sorry I couldn't found the exact word because I'm using non-English version)

Hideki is correct. On the General Tab, under "Settings" uncheck the "R1C1 Reference style" box.
