    Cell Shading

    Does anyone know if it is possible to get apply a broader range of colours to a cells shading?

    You seem to be limited to 40 standard colours from the patterns tab of the format cells dialog but you have a lot more flexibility for colouring a drawing object for example.

    You can use 56 colors in a workbook.

    You can see the current color scheme via: tools|Options|color tab

    You can change any of the 56 to something else by clicking modify.

    And you can see all 56 colors if you go through the format|cells|pattern tab.
