    Date Grouping Issue

I am trying to use pivot tables with an automated refresh of data. I want to report on all data in every column and row (Example Sheet1!$A:$D).

The issue I have is I want to group my dates but receiving error since not all rows in the selection have dates in them since some rows are blank based on selecting the entire column. However, I will never know how many rows will be returned from the automated refresh.

Is there a way to dummy the date field automatically, filter out blank dates, or automate the selection of only rows which have data, so grouping can still occur.

Maybe using a dynamic range would work?
