    Adding rubriks

    I'm a college teacher. I have created a presence sheet. I have a calculation:

    C3+D3+E3+F3+G3+I3+J3+K3+L3+N3+O3+P3+Q3+R3+S3+T3
    (H3 is not included because it is spring break.)

    That gives me a total of 48 hours of presence.

    First I want to include rubriks:
    "ex" = presence excused = 3 hours
    "x" = absence = 0 hours
    "l" = late = 2.9 hours

    Second, I would like to make the maximum for each cell = 3

    Can you help please. I think this is the first time I have used Excel for anything serious.

    C3-t3

    IOW, what calculation do I need to format C3 to T3 to be able to use my rubriks?

    Re: Adding rubriks

    Hello:

    You also left M3 out.

    Just type "ex" or "x" or "l" (leave the "" out) or leave the cell
    blank (counts as present).

    Assume in X2 you put the possible score of 48 (this allows you
    change this number without changing the rest of the calculations.

    In U3 count the excused absences by: =COUNTIF(C3:T3,"ex")
    In V3 count the absences by: =COUNTIF(C3:T3,"x")
    In W3 count the lates by: =COUNTIF(C3:T3,"l")
    in X3 count the attendance by: =$X$2-V3*3-W3*0.1

    You can copy U3, V3, W3, and X3 down for every row that you have a student.
