    Red face Raise numbers in the same proportion..

    Hello everyone,

    I am new on this board and in desperate need for help!
    I'll try to make myself as clear as possible, although I am sure you've all come across genuinely complicated problems.

    I have two numbers, let's say 157 and 348 that equal 505. I would like to raise 505 so that it equals 709. What formula coud I use to raise 157 and 348 in the exact same proportion so that they equal 709?

    I really look forward to hear from any of you soon

    Bless y'll

    Pamela

    You're dealing with ratios/percentages

    You raised 505 by 709/505*100% which is 140.396%

    So you want to raise the other numbers by that same %age

    Your formula is 157 * 140.396% which is 220.4218
    and 348 * 140.396% which is 488.5782

    220.4218 + 488.5782 = 709

    RE: Raise numbers in the same proportion..

    Build yourself a small table:
    A B C
    1 157.00 348.00 505.00
    2 102.00 102.00 204.00
    3 259.00 450.00 709.00

    A1 = 157 B1 = 348 C1 = A1+B1
    A2 = C2/2 B2 = C2/2 C2 = C3-C1
    A3 = A1+A2 B3 = B1+B2 C3 = 709

    Hi Pamela,

    Try this formula.

    =(G1+(G4-G3)/2)+(G2+(G4-G3)/2)

    Where G1 = 158
    G2 = 348
    G3 = =G1+G2
    G4 = 709

    HTH
    Regards,
    Howard
