    Protecting Formula's

I have a worksheet that uses a lookup to display a value. The worksheet is used by multiple people and they are frequently changing the lookup value. However occasioinaly they also change the formula that does the look up. How do I protect the formula from being edited or deleted. I've tried protecting the cells, but when someone tries to edut the lookup value it comes back with an error that you can't change the value of a protected cell

    Hi

You'll need to unlock (from Format/Cells/Protection) all of the cells and
then just lock the one you want protecting. Then protect the worksheet.

That will not work. When you change the value that the "protected" cell is referencing, the value in the "protected" cell needs to change. If the cell is protected it will not allow that value to be updated.

Locking the cell with the formula and protecting the worksheet won't affect the
    way that formula works.

It will stop users from typing over the cell that's protected (just the cells
    with the formulas???).
