    Auto Virus Scan

    Hi

Using Windows xp and Excel Xp2002

When I open up a worksheet in Excel I get a message come up along the bottom
of the screen telling me that it has requested a virus scan. It then proceeds
to do this which adds to the time it takes for a spreadsheet to open up.

Since I have an online virus programme running and therefore by definition (
I assume) any worksheets that I am sent via email are checked for viruses
when downloaded, why do I need to have this every time I open a worksheet up.

Is there any way of turning this of as it does slow down the opening of
    worksheet.

I have looked everywhere for the facility to enable me to turn it of but
    cannot find anything!!

    Regards

    Re: Auto Virus Scan

    Hi Oldbiscaya

I am running AVG antivirus but having looked at all the setups, there does
not appear to be any setting which allows for the scanning of excel workbooks
    when they are opened.

    Regards

    Re: Auto Virus Scan

Are you sure you "looked at all the setups"? Neither Microsoft
Office XP nor Microsoft Excel 2002 includes a built-in virus
scanner. The "requesting virus scan" message is a function of
your chosen third-party antivirus program. To disable the Office
Plugin that comes with AVG, click on Start | Run, and in the Open
    box, type:

    regsvr32.exe /u avgoff2k.dll

You may need to specify the full path to your avgoff2k.dll file
    (e.g., regsvr32.exe /u "c:\pathname\avgoff2k.dll") in the Open
box. You might try actually reading the Help instructions that
come with AVG. You might also try visiting AVG's website to see
if they offer any other suggestions.
