    Re: Negative Reputation

This happens more frequently that you might think. It's usually just a mistake by the person clicking and there is no undue on our end. Just contact people with more admin rights for assistance in similar cases. You can also do this when you get a negative rep for things like telling the poster to follow a specific rule. Somehow they think that if they give you a negative rep then that will scare you away from them .
    Please consider:

Thanking those who helped you. Click the star icon in the lower left part of the contributor's post and add Reputation.

Good points made, and in most cases these can be fixed fairly easily, so dont sit back, let a mod or admin know

    Re: Negative Reputation

We should get rid of the negative rep system, and it's very confusing when you click on the Add Reputation button to be presented with I Agree / I Disagree - what does this mean? Surely if you have clicked Add Reputation then that is what you want to do, so it would be better to be present with a little dialogue box along the lines of "Thanks for adding to this poster's reputation ... add a comment if you wish to" along with a Submit button. The Report Post button can be used instead of negative rep. (I've made this suggestion in the Improvement thread)

    Re: Negative Reputation

    Agree with Pete_UK.

Or why not just have two buttons to avoid confusion in the first place? One called "Add Reputation", the other something appropriately worded to indicate that it is for conveying that you found the response inappropriate/very unhelpful, etc. But possibly still with a pop-up saying e.g. "Are you sure?".

    Re: Negative Reputation

New members don't even know what is reputation..
I remember I didn't gave any for months 'till I discover it

Something like "I like this post" would be much intuitive.

    @XOR

We already have that second button - it's called Report Post.

Yes, but the report post goes to the Mods/ Admin not the person who posted the comment being flagged.

Let's leave aside about the confusion.
Why I get punished for spending my time and effort in return for nothing? It is beyond believe people who are willing to help others are punished irrespective of their behaviour.
I always wonder what is the intention of including this ugly idea in the first place.

    Re: Negative Reputation

Unfortunately the few people I've seen that deserved negative rep would neither know nor care what it was, so it does seem pointless. However there are probably more important things to take care of...

We should definitely keep the ability to give negative rep. I whack Stomper with it all the time to keep him from getting too big for his britches.

Not true - you have no idea how smug I'd be if you hadn't been doing it.

As along as somebody can help, if it was a mistake, the system should remain I think.

    Re: Negative Reputation

I have 1 negative Rep point to my name.. helped some bloke.. can't remember what it was or who it was .. but the guy was so apologetic that he Checked the wrong option button...

In passing convo.. I mentioned it to Jerry.. he offered to fix it.. I declined.. as, everytime i see that little red dot.. it reminds me of the ironies of life and what it is to be human...

Plus.. it makes me smile.. and that in itself is worthless...

Negative reputation, hmmm I've never been tempted before but since I’ve not been able to view any uploaded images (png files) since august last year I would like to give some to the forum tech team.

Could anybody clue me in how to do that please?

    Alf
