    Imran..
You cannot delete Posts, or Threads. ( http://www.excelforum.com/the-water-...g-posts-3.html )

But you can ask a Moderator or Administrator to do it for you, should there be a good reason. Contact them by Private message, ( PM ) - http://imgur.com/DgCnaDg
( Remember to give a link to the Thread or Post ( copied from the Browser URL Bar ) and give the Post Number. )

    Or

Alternatively Hit the Report Button ( Next to the Add Reputation Button ) on the Post you want deleted and contact them that way.

P.s.1. Do you know that you posted this in Sub Forum: The Water Cooler http://www.excelforum.com/the-water-cooler/

Remember Tests belong here in Sub Forum Development testing forum : http://www.excelforum.com/development-testing-forum/

P.s.2. Remember also to Reply to and Edit post in your existing Test Threads, if possible, so as to minimise the number of Posts and Threads that you have which are just for testing.

I wanted to check what is the purpose of "Unsubscribe" When we see in user CP. The result was it removed from User CP subscribed list but the thread remains in the forum you just cut the string of your kite but the kite keeps on floating in the sky for a while and then disappears, but still exists somewhere.

Also, if you unsubscribe, you will no longer get notification per Email of replies to the Thread.

    Hi Imran,

If you post a question and a good answer is given, those posts live on the net (forever?) as long as the forum keeps then online. All these forum posts are to help others learn and use Excel from the questions and answers others have provided. If unsubscribe deleted all my past posts, a few thousand answers would be removed. Should the whole post be removed or just my answers to the questions? I hope you can see why unsubscribing shouldn't delete all your questions and/or answers in the forum.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

    @Respected Guru(sir MarviP) and Expert(Doc.)
If I post a thread but I got solution from some of my colleges shortly.I then go to the my thread to check if someone has answered if so then ok. I will mark it solved.but if no one has replied yet I immediately want to delete that thread so that the valuable time of the forum members/Experts/Gurus should not be wasted.

This is my goal. And if there is a tool for that please help me how can I save time of the forum members if I get the solution from somewhere other than the forum.

We may ask a mod/Admin that might take longer and in between an expert/guru's time would have been wasted.

    Best Regards
    Irman Bhatti

Cannot Delete Posts or Threads. Rule is unlikely to change. (How about Self Satisfaction?)

That is a very good argument.

    However, _..
_....I think there is at least one more important argument against all members having the ability to delete Posts and Threads, even only their own: That is that unfortunately some members might misuse this privileges , deleting Posts making subsequent posts look out of place. In fact, Editing posts should be done with responsibility. No major changes should be made after a reply has been received

The question of the ability for anyone to delete their posts has often been asked.
The answer is that it is a clear policy, previously thought out considering the pros and cons, and that Policy is that this is not available for all members_.

_...And as Marvin (sir MarviP ) said, there are clear Policies Not generally to delete Threads,
    http://www.excelforum.com/excel-prog...ml#post4373634
( But your argument for an unanswered one to be deleted is reasonable. ) _..There is no tool or direct way for you to do this deleting without contacting a Moderator or Administrator.

Another Alternative: , if you have an answer elsewhere, then you can reply to your Thread and share the URL link to the solution you have received elsewhere.

And a nice alternative which I like can give personal satisfaction... – almost as much as another form of self satisfaction that I had better not talk about publically..
Sometime in the future you will likely have the ability to answer the question yourself. If so, come back to the old Thread and give your solution

    Editing test Posts:
For the case of Test posts, some testing may give results that you wish to refer to later.
But for many , you, and likely no one else, will be interested in the results.
Therefore there is an argument for the ability to delete such posts, or , probably better, in my opinion, would be to remove the limit on Edit time , ( This limit is approximately 20 days for me, currently , I think, http://www.excelforum.com/developmen...st-thread.html
The time may be reduced or this possibility may not be available for newer OPs
    ).

Then, with the ability to Edit posts, you can continually use the same Posts and prevent multiple unnecessary posts. ( I have a multilingual Suggestion posted for that recently http://www.excelforum.com/exceltip-c...ime-limit.html )

Hey Imran.... How about practicing a Title change?.
See if you can change your Title for this Thread from your current “Testing .No reply needed “, to something like “Adding and Removing Subscriptions to Threads, Deleting Posts and Threads”

To change a Title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title. If you find you are unable to do so, contact a Moderator or Admin, and ask them to do it for you .

Re: Adding and Removing Subscriptions to Threads, Deleting Posts and Threads

    Hi,

Another reason for not deleting threads is:

A few times in the past, it would take me a few days to write the code or develop a hard formula to solve a problem. If the OP had deleted the question, even without a reply, my time would have been for naught for the OP. This might have been considered when the rule was developed.

Re: Adding and Removing Subscriptions to Threads, Deleting Posts and Threads

A user cannot, and should not be able to, delete a thread they started or a post they made. It is good that threads remain for other members to learn from. I somtimes subscribe to threads to see what solutions get offered.
A user can however edit a post they have made and remove all its content. I would imagine if that was done often without good reason they would get banned.

Re: Adding and Removing Subscriptions to Threads, Deleting Posts and Threads

But you definitely shouldn't crosspost the same question in several fora.
Complying to this rule makes this whole thread redundant.

I would not do it myself. But each to their own.

Regarding cross posting just to classify on that:
Most volunteer helpers prefer people not to cross post. (Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. )
Some reasons for why many regular do not like you to do this are given here, for example here
    http://www.excelfox.com/forum/showth...-Cross-Posters
    http://www.excelguru.ca/content.php?184

If you do choose to do it, most forums require that must include links ( copied from your Browser URL Bar ) in all Threads to all the Threads to which you have started that are for the same or similar question.
See , for example our Rule 8:
    Other languages: http://www.excelforum.com/forums-rules/
    English: http://www.excelforum.com/forum-rule...rum-rules.html

As snb inferred, there would be less need to discussed some of the issues discussed here, if cross posting were avoided. In my opinion it is nice to have Forum where one can concentrate ones efforts in, and can in turn, rely on a good response to ones questions.
There may be occasions , however, when one is under pressure , that one might legitimately look elsewhere for your answer.

A good progression in my opinion would be to post your question here at Excel Forum
After a couple of days of no response you could try “Bumping” your Thread. This term “Bump”, in this context, is not referring to having sexual intercourse with your computer, even if the frustration might lead you to wish to do so. ( http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...ge=2&term=bump ). Of course if you wish to do so, then that is your decision.
In relation to Forum Threads, Bumping means replying to your Thread, start the response with “Bump”, followed by any additional information you may wish also to give.
If you still receive no response, and have been unable to find a solution elsewhere, or solve the problem yourself, then you might want to consider posting the question in another Forum. In this case you can Edit your Posts in the Thread started in this Forum so as to include the link to, and inform of, your Thread in the other Forum or Forums.

Unfortunately, the rules relating to cross posting are frequently broken. Luckily we have some members who frequently catch cross posting, and inform of the cross post in the Posts in this Forum.
The issue of cross posting is a very good addition to this Thread , in my opinion, as clearly , as you infer thoughts behind, “Deleting Posts and Threads” could well come into the mind of someone cross posting. As compliance to the cross posting rule is , I expect, unlikely to greatly improve, there is both relevance and non redundancy to this Thread and to bringing up the cross posting issue.
