Question What skin are you wearing?

The most recent activity conducted by the owner of this forum was to change the GUI to something a little "brighter". That change took place one year ago. Some users thought "Change must be good, so this is good, right?" While others felt the sensation of snow-blindness was too high a price. Thankfully, just before returning to his hibernation, the owner relented and allowed an option to switch back to the original GUI skin. (This option is available at the bottom of the "Edit Options" page of your "User CP".)

So, after a year, how has the "new wallpaper" been hanging for you?

    Which do you prefer/use?

I think it's a lot to do with what you're used to. I'm guessing the default was the Excel Forum when I signed up and, consequently, I've always used that. I wasn't aware that there was another option but, having had a quick test, I think I'll stick with "new and bright".

I use the Child skin largely because it makes any formatting you apply in code tags actually visible.

... to you (and others using the same skin!)

the fact that those using the new skin can't see formatted code within code tags is a R-PITA.

Re: What skin are you wearing?

I am using the default skin. I just tried the other child skin and found default to be easier on my little mind to absorb.

Didn't realize we had an option. Just switched to "Child." I like it a lot. Seems to be more dynamic.

I am going to try child skin over the weekend just to be fair to the change. I don't like the expanding links on the side though although that might be the way my browser here at work is rendering them.

Child -- because it works -- and it has worked for years. The new sin has just too many quirks that were never resolved. There was a brief period of activity, with some cosmetic changes, but it never really got finished. Neither did the skin change help in addressing the more pressing issues of forum structure, which the moderators have been asking about for more than three years now.

I think what teylyn meant was

"The new sink has too many quarks"

I have experienced that problem also.....

Thank you for posting this question. I had no idea that there was a child skin. I just switched to it and like it so much better than the default.

    @ Martin
Tried looking at default in chrome but it look every bit as bright as in IE8.
My ageing mark one eyeballs find the default a bit tiring, even toning the screen down.

I didn't know about the alternative until now, I must give it a try.

It's almost as blissful as discovering the Charcoal skin at VBAX.

I just switched over to the Child for awhile to see how I like this......it looks more like the other V-Bull forums that I frequent.

Re: What skin are you wearing?

For "Child of 3.7.2 creation" skin think: Excel 2003

For "Excel Forum" skin think: Excel 2007
(though in terms of code support it's more like 2008)

Yes, one looks dated and the other has the greater aesthetic appeal, however, only one of them really works. The other remains a little too buggy for some of us to accept.

Let us hope there is an Excel 2010 skin equivalent around the corner...
