Hi guys.... I would like to know your opinions... What would you buy if you have 2500 dollars cash??
PS: I like Apple Mac Book. It has great design. it's very fast (sturtup / shutdown). Today I was @ local Apple Store. I saw Mac Book Quadro Duo for 2299 Dollars... Subconsciously I want to buy it, but I heard much about incompatibility of Win7 files (e.g. .exe, .doc).with Apple. Please help me choose...

Hi,
Every I know who has a mac says that they're great if you can justify the price. Personally I couldn't which is why I went for my Dell XPS 2nd Gen i7 which set me back under £800. It's not as pretty as a mac book but I can live with that, I like Windows 7 (gather it a great improvement on Vista) and it's uber-fast.

You can't run Windows programs in OSX - you need to either dual boot Windows (using Boot Camp) or set up a virtual machine). Documents such as Word docs should be fine as long as you have a program that will read them - e.g. Office 2011 or LibreOffice.
To answer your question - if I had 2500 dollars (or pounds) in cash, I'd buy a Mac Book Pro (13") and a new pram.![]()
Guess it has a lot to do with what you grew up with and how keen you are for change.
I grew up with Windows and I've got a reasonably fast Sony laptop with Windows 7 x64 ... and I love it.
My son swears by Apple and has bought a Macbook Air which is a beautiful piece of kit, so thin, so light ... but not Windows.
There's a new laptop out, I think by Samsung but not sure, which is very thin, very fast, Windows and about 1300GBP.
If I had the money to spare, I think I'd give the Mac a go ... but, from what I can gather, it is a bit of a learning curve.
Regards
IMO, Macs are extremely easy to use if all you want to do is just use them. If you want to tinker and mess around with advanced settings etc. it gets a little more interesting...![]()
@Dom I'd be interested to know how many people use Dell. I had to get a home PC recently and got opinions from a coworker who used to be a full time programmer. He told me Dell used to be very good, but has recently started using very cheap hardware. Have you had any problems? FYI I decided to go with a Gateway Laptop. I've only had it for a month, but so far so good.
As far as Contaminated's actual question, if I had $2,500 and didn't pay down debt, I'd wring my own neck.
Is your code running too slowly?
Does your workbook or database have a bunch of duplicate pieces of data?

It will save both time and effort in the long run!

Knock on wood, I've had good luck with Dell pc's and laptops. As far as I know, they don't use cheap parts but I don't know for a fact. I have a cousin that swears by Mac but he doesn't use it for much more than checking emails and surfing the net. I prefer Windows, especially 7. It seems very smooth, user friendly, and enjoyable to use. My old pc was running XP and I loved that one although I am currently in the process of trying to install Linux on it.
Please leave a message after the beep!
I'm a Dell guy, the company I love to hate. If you're going to use VBA, Mac seems to have problems and inconsistencies.

I bought 3 Dell Pc's about 6 years ago (for myself, my mum and a friend) and not a single thing has gone wrong with any of them. I did look long and hard at before going for this one and I did not find a single bad review about the XPS, the main criticism being the styling which admittedly could be a bit Marmite (I quite like it). It mainly came down to price vs performance for me.

I have been (and am currently) using a Dell XPS 1330 for the last 5 years or so, and have to say it's a great machine.
It's hard to beat a WUXGA display.

I personally have a Mac Book pro and I LOVE it. It has never given me problems and its really as good as everyone says it is.
Its good for anything you need.. literally.. Trust me theres a reason why all of those Apple stores are packed all the time!

My theory is you buy the latest, beefed up machine you can. Then it won't go obsolete as soon and you'll save money by extending the use of each machine longer.
My current machine is a Dell Studio XPS 1645. I should have waited a few weeks before upgrading as the newer ones have a newer video card that can drive two monitors using HDMI.
I just upgraded to a BIG DELL monitor that claims to 2560 x 1600 resolution. An older machine would have never supported this, but because I bought the latest and greatest over a year ago, it worked at this resolution.
With the Dell PC there are always new add-ons like newer external keyboards and mice. I'm using a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 and am impressed with the Bluetrack technology. See - http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en...ack-technology.
My goal in buying stuff is to discover a feature that I want and find that it is already included in what I've bought. This keeps me from buying something new, and hopefully saving money.Think Excel and needing a function or feature and realizing it is already there. This is why we use Excel instead of non-standard databases or spreadsheets.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.
