I'd second TeamViewer. It's a brilliant piece of software.
I downloaded it after seeing it recommended here (I think). Anyway, it's free for personal use and works exceptionally well, in my opinion.
I wanted it for my iPad and was able to drive my desktop PC at home from my iPad when we were in France over Christmas.
I'm sure it will do everything you want.
Regards, TMS
I use teamViewer for commercial purposes and find it the best software for the task.
Sincerely Steffen Thomsen
Thanks for the advise guys.
Does the other PC always have to be turned on? Can I access files remotely when it is off?

Oh come on Dave. What do you think?Does the other PC always have to be turned on? Can I access files remotely when it is off?
There may be a wake up on LAN option but I've not checked for that.
Regards, TMS
TMS, it is not as silly a question as you might think. See: Here
I was just wondering if TeamViewer had something similar
Live Sync is available for both Mac and Windows. The new version of Live Sync is even better and it has integrated online storage (Live Mesh) so you’ll be able to access your important file even if the remote computer is off.

In the example you quote, you must have previously stored your files in the cloud. If you want to put your stuff up there, that's up to you ... and you can access it when your PC is switched off. With Desktop Sharing software, you’ll always have access to all your files but one big limitation is that it requires that the remote computer stays on. Also, none of these options will help you access files on a mobile phone except LogMeIn which has an iPhone app.
Regards, TMS
Yeah, I was wondering if they had something like that. I could not see anything on their site, but you are correct when say, "If you want to put your stuff up there, that's up to you", it brings about a whole heap of security issues. I think I will stick to remote access dirrectly.
Thanks TMS.![]()

I very rarely switch my desktop off but I would recommend you switch off the monitor(s) ... not just lapsed into standby ... and mute the sound. You don't need to have the physical monitor switched on and, if you do, running TeamViewer will wake it up. And starting VLC or iTunes inadvertently is likely to scare the sh!t out of anyone in the room.
Thanks for the rep ... don't get many green ones these days![]()

It looks like I may take that approach. There is no Lan wake on teamviever, although I could use a third part application. I just think it would be easier to leave it on.
LOL, Glad you could finally see some green!

I also use DropBox if I simply want to share files. You can share some files publicly or just by invitation
Hope that helps.

There's all sorts of ways, like Skydrive, for example.
But, call me old fashioned, I like my stuff to be where it belongs ... on my hard drives.
And, being realistic, you have to think and plan ... otherwise the file(s) you want still won't be available.
I think your best bet would be to get a NAS drive and connect that to your router. Look on Amazon.
I find the bauty of DropBox is that files can be synced so a shared file can be used & updated by it's users. There can be a conflict if they try to use them at the same time
Hope that helps.
