    Please Mark Solved

    Hi ExcelForumers! (ExcelForumites? ExcelForumians?..)

Please reply to this thread if you would like your thread marked as Solved, but it has been more than two days since the thread was started. Include a hyperlink to the thread(s) in question, as we do not scour the forum looking for threads to mark Solved.

If you are the author of the thread, and if it has been less than two days, you can mark the thread Solved yourself by simply going to the first post in the thread and clicking Thread Tools --> Mark Thread as Solved.

You can also do this by clicking Edit Post within the first post in the thread, then clicking Go Advanced and finally changing the Prefix field to Solved (and save changes).

We prefer if the author of the thread is the person making the request, however if another user involved in the thread makes the request it may be done if it appears the author has received the assistance needed and responded in kind. Once the request is actioned we will delete it from this thread to reduce the clutter.

Thanks, and have a great day!

    Vlady
Some of your links have outstanding questions still unanswered.
Please make sure there are no outstanding issues before putting them on this thread.
I marked a couple as SOLVED but, for some reason, I wasn't allowed to remove them from the list.

    Done - marked as solved.

If the user has opened the thread in the last 2 days, they can mark it as solved themselves.

But if they haven't done so right after their "problem solved!"-post, they most likely won't, right?

    Re: Please Mark Solved

If people come back to thank me for a solution, I will generally ask them to mark the thread solved if they have not done so already. I use a canned reply which describes how to mark the thread as solved, and encourages them to thank anyone who has helped them. If they do, they do ... I don't follow it up. I'm not sure I'd see an update if the mark the thread solved either but I don't think I do.

    Ford,

I think it is because Admin like to have posts marked as SOLVED if they are, but often the OP does not do so, so this thread gives a responder the chance to point this out to mods.

Personally, I don't bother with this thread if the OP hasn't marked a thread as solved after I have requested it of them.

When this thread first started, I went through all my subscribed threads and listed them for Arlette to mark solved. Like Pete, I don't bother with it now.

    Re: Please Mark Solved

It may not be obvious, but it used to be a little harder to flag your thread as SOLVED. And there was a time limit, so it couldn't be done at all in some cases without a mod. The last couple of forum updates have made it easier to flag as SOLVED and I'm not sure the time limit exists anymore.

You can mark your own threads as solved. Select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark the thread as SOLVED.

I asked the OP on both of these threads (same person) to mark the thread as solved but alas, no luck so far. I believe his final post in each clearly indicates the issue is solved and he is happy with the outcome... maybe someone can mark them as solved?

Please provide one link per line. The links in your post are not working properly. Please also ensure that the OP has made it clear that the thread is solved: some of these do not have any word from the OP suggesting that they have, and as such cannot be marked as solved.

Imran - I don't think you understand. You cannot ask for us to mark as solved anybody else's thread. Most (all?) of those threads to which you have linked are either already marked as solved or were not started by you. If they were not started by you, then you cannot ask for them to be marked as solved. Only the OP (original poster) can do that.

That's not quite what I understand this thread to be for, Ali.

If you have worked on a thread and it has been solved but the OP has not marked it as such, then it is legitimate to ask a Mod or Admin to do so via this thread.

I'm not a Moderator here, so this has minimal impact on me... But... isn't this a real pain in the rear-end, marking endless lists of threads as solved? Does the benefit outweigh the time that you spend doing this? Yes, it keeps it all neat and tidy, but... don't you resent having to undertake this (nugatory) activity?

Re: Please Mark Solved. Why are OPs so Pooey and don't do it?

I agree totally Glenn, On the one hand it keeps it all neat and tidy, bit must be a pain in the bottom , marking endless lists of threads as solved.
It seems to be an increasing tendency for request by helpers for OP’s to make thread as Solved being ignored or not understood.
    Maybe Sandy “Dali” 666 could do a good picture, Lol… ( https://www.excelforum.com/developme...g-picture.html )

Better still, maybe Gurus and even Experts could be allowed to mark a Thread as Solved and be done with it, ( after preferably asking the OP to do it as well initially ). If the OP does not agree he has the option to say so , and even take the time to realise that he can also Mark his Thread as Unsoved as well , ( that is to say he can both add and take off the Solved to his thread )

Thanks to the both of you

I try whenever I get feedback from the OP if thread is solved but not marked as such I do add a "Ps" how to mark it so but the success rate for this kind of reminders are rather small / low?.

Not sure of the right wording in this case. Hints please?

Hints for getting them marked solved?
hmm that is something we all sometimes have a problem with. If OP wont do it, post here and a mod can do it for you, if it is justified

    Hi Alf,
Some, such as sandy666, have made some attempts to draw OPs attention
    https://www.excelforum.com/developme...ml#post4669066
I use my own canned reply version , others do too*

I think I suggested in this Thread that the “authority” to mark a thread as Solved could perhaps be extended “down” the levels a bit, as like Ford said and you noticed, the success rate of any attempts seems pretty low. OPs just don’t get it, or notice it, etc…
I doubt iit is easy to do that authority change

I expect any observant OP would notice your P.S. or any referral to how to do it. Those that would not notice that probably would not respond to anything.

    Re: Please Mark Solved

This real problem here is that there is not an obvious button to hit when OP gets a solution
Tucking important things away at the top of the thread under thread tools makes it all too obscure
There should be another button next to "Quick Reply" called "Thread Solved" which should give a canned reply "Thanks for solving my problem" which the OP could then add to if desired.

It depends what options VBulletin offers, Kev - I have never seen a version with a thread solved button at the bottom. In fact, most VBulletin forums I visit have it hidden altogether!

    Hi Kev_
I expect the problem there is that it would involve messing with the vBullitin software, which based on past experience is not usualy a wise thing for the "Tech Team" to attempt.. lol..

I expect any observant OP would notice your P.S.
Sometimes I do think that the OP having got a solution to the problem "forgets" all about the forum and will not visit again until a new problem pops up or a modification may be needed.

So any comments / suggestions made after the OP has got an "the answer" to his problem will probably not be noticed.

I understand your "reflex" reaction, clearly the consequence of psychological torture suffered previously at the behest of this forum
... but has anyone asked the question?

I admit that I was pushing the boat out too much by suggesting a "canned reply" and humbly withdraw that "dangerous" request
But is adding a button linked to an existing option really that "risky"?

    Re: Please Mark Solved

@ Alf, yeah I think that is the situation usually, having got a solution many OP "forget" the Forum until the next time. I don't know if they get notifications of any further reply ( will depend of course on their settings ), but usually, as you say, they are gone until the next time.
    -._________

@Kev .... The answer is probably, yes, lol... based on our experience it is risky.
( They tried adding a simple button before: ( New Thread Button https://www.excelforum.com/the-water...ml#post4580714 ). It did not work and they removed it rather than fixing it )
But I think it is always good to put the suggestions forward.. you never know ...

Edit. I think often things are / have been asked by the Admins. I would not be privy to all they ask. They do try, I believe.
    Alan

Edit P.S. We do have a canned reply ( Canned replies are available to from Forum Expert level )

The simplicity to accomplish this is not worth even mentioning: sooooo simple.

So how do I progress this risky suggestion?
Is it simply starting a new thread on Forum: Suggestions for Improvement?

The OP also seems to have some problems with the forum setup see post #6 and #8. Any clue to what the problem could be?

Re: Please Mark Solved. Hi Alf.

    Hi Alf,
Might it have something to do with
    _1 ) his default style
    vb4DefaultStyle.JPG : http://imgur.com/PVfWHgO
    MobileStylePremium.JPG : http://imgur.com/AWTSBun
    Lightweight.JPG : http://imgur.com/LFBU8DZ
( I think you have less options in the last two viewing styles. He needs probably vb4 Default Style , which is the one most of us are familiar with).
    OR
_2) he was not logged in when he tried.
    OR
_3) Possibly new OPs may not have that “great power” to Mark As Solved until they have done a few posts .
_3b) ( I think there is something similar with the "Power to Edit". - There is an anti spammer thing in place that prevents a new OP immediately doing these things so as to prevent a Spammer registering and immediately doing “changing edit spam type advertisements” and the such. This puts a bit in question the punishing of an OP so quickly for not changing a Title or adding code tags…. We probably should have the policy of adding code tags and changing a thread title for the OP until his second or so Thread…. ( which some Mods do anyways…. ) )

    Alan.

Yous welcome, Alf. I expect the OP is off until the next time he needs help… never mind… It is good that we keep up on our cute little Forum Software characteristics… and oddities.
    Thanks for the Rep, ( don’t forget the stats :-) https://www.excelforum.com/the-water...-feedback.html :-) )

    Oh dear, oh dear

You have not forgotten that, well I haven not been that active of lately so 1st of April is my last input. Then it was a total of 78 and if I should update with my postings after that date I would probably have a 100 persons in all.

Will have to wait for a rainy day as I've been busy fixing bathrooms both in Gothenburg and Stockholm. At the moment statistics look like this with end date 1st of April 2017:

    @ Bill

This is something you have to do yourself.
Select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark the thread as SOLVED.
Avoid using Select, Selection and Activate in your code. Use With ... End With instead.
You can show your appreciation for those that have helped you by clicking the * at the bottom left of any of their posts.
