hi all,
I am using XP SP2.
Yesterday night I deleted my assignment file by mistake by using combo keys (Shift+del).
I am looking for a good software to locate and find the deleted file in my computer HDD.
Please help and recommend me a good software to recover the file.

Recuva is free.
Hope that helps.

Try Roys suggestion and build a process in future of archiving as you work
ie mywork V1.xls
mywork v2.xls
v3
v4
etc
Save as many times as you need even if v100 is reached ie i save every time i leave my desk or save new version each 30 - 60 mins
good house keeping
once all work is done SAVE AS myWork (FINAL).xls
then reSave as XYZ as required for work naming conventions ie Report For Month Sales Figures.xls
Gary Utilities is very useful.

Many free file recovery programs exist that can help recover your accidentally deleted files. These file recovery programs can help you "undelete" files on your computer.
Files you have deleted and then recently emptied from your Recycle Bin are often still present on your hard drive (or USB drive, or media card, etc.) and can be recovered using free file recovery software.
Important: You can greatly increase the chance of recovering a file by minimizing your computer use as soon as possible. Your first step should be to install a free file recovery program.
Undelete files you thought were gone forever with any one of these freeware file recovery tools:
1. Recuva
2. Glary Undelete
3. Pandora Recovery
4. SoftPerfect File Recovery
5. Restoration
