Creating a ToC using styles in a Header Section - Is it possible?

Hi,

I have a client who has a 20 -page document made up of 20 one-page sections. To uitlise the full area of each page my client wants to place the title of the page in the header section, customising the title for each section and have a constant footer with page numbering across all 20 pages. The first section is to contain the ToC.

However, if I create a custom style for the section title that goes into the header and tell Word to create a ToC based only on this custom style, I get an error message saying nothing found to create the ToC.

Have I pushed Word too far? Is there a workaround to meet the client's specifications?

Thanks for that. I have considered reducing header and footer content but wanted to make sure that my orignal plan was a no-goer. Thanks for confirming what I suspected.
