Preserving size of linked excel bitmaps in word

I've been setting up a file with some linked bitmaps from an excel sheet, but when you update the links, the images revert back to their original size. So if you paste in the linked data as the bitmap, then resize it to fit, it'll expand back out when you update and ruin the document.

Any ideas?
