Hello all,
I had a quick and simple question that I couldnt seem to fnid anywhere online.
Alright so I have a word document that is several pages and requires me to input a name, rank, and date. I'm trying to find a way to just enter a blank field on the first page that when filled in will show the exact same text in the same spots on the other pages so for example If I enter a name the same name will be displayed on the second, third , fourth.... etc etc.
Is it a Field? or a Macro? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Aaron
Hi,
my gut feeling approach is this:
use one of the Heading styles for your data entry fields on the first page (format the style to suit your purpose). I just assume that you will not use the headings for a table of contents.
Now enter your name, rank, date, etc, and assing the heading style to these paragraphs.
Next, specify that the document should have page Headers, different first page (via File - Page setup). I don't care much about how you style your first page header, or if you leave it blank, but edit your second page header and create a cross-reference to the items on the first page, using
Insert - Reference - cross-reference
reference type = Heading
Insert reference to = Heading text
for each data item you want repeated on the top of each page.
Style this page header to suit. Items can even be on the same line, or on separate lines; define how much space the header takes up, etc.
Now this second page, and every consecutive page will have this header with name, rank, date etc. in it, just as you specified.
If you edit/change the information on the first page, double-click the header to edit, then select all (CTRL-A) and hit F9 to update the reference fields.
Does that make sense??? I've tried it out in Word 2007, but it should work in 2003 just as well.
cheers

Avoid pie charts with more than two data points. Why? See here (pdf, 559 kb). The only acceptable pie chart is here.
Thanks, that makes sense! I'll try it out!
