    Question linked styles

    Hello,

I am trying to link some custom sytle together and am having problems.

    I have been given a document to re-format (Word 97!). I have created a custom heading i.e.
    1. Title
    1.1 Sub title
    1.1.1. etc...

I want to insert a 'figure x.x.x' title to all figures and would like them to have a parent of teh previous heading. For example, a figure in section 3.7.5 would be figure 3.7.5.

If I link the style to the 'heading 3' style and accept and apply, it resets and loses the link.

    Any ideas?

Was tempted to havd fig 1, 2 etc but then think it seems weird that figure one would appear in section 3!

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: linked styles

The following works in Word 2003, not too sure about 2000:

Insert - Reference - Caption - click Numbering
    tick Include chapter number
specify the heading for the chapter

Avoid pie charts with more than two data points. Why? See here (pdf, 559 kb). The only acceptable pie chart is here.

Thank you very much! Never used the captions before.
