Hi,
using one watermark is easy. But if it is possible then how do you get a different watermark on a new page. I am working in 2007 but saving in 97-2003.
It also has to be in one document.

I think you'd need a new section for each page.

I did try that. But unless I am doing it wrong if I changed the watermark it changed it in all sections. I regularly use sections to change the layout from portrait to landscape in the same document.
I will probably end up putting in a picture with text to overlay as it is only for a couple of pages. But I am concerned that this might muck up if opened with a different version of word (or different printer).
Cheers

Insert the watermark as a picture in the section header, which is (can be) different for each section.

Cheers. I am still a bit concerned that it might lose some formatting at the other end, but hey ho. I will send off a pdf version as well.
It is good that in putting the picture in the header :
- the "behind text" format alllows the picture to go into the main text area;
- and will go behind the text in the footer as well.
If the picture is in the main body and you stretch it over the footer it obscures the footer even with "behind text".
