word 2007 comes up in word pad?

When I save MS word 2007 documents and then open them, they all come up in word pad not MS word 2007. It did not used to do that. I screwed it up a long time ago & not sure how. How do I fix it?

If you go into Windows Explorer and then in the Tools menu choose Folder Options. Select the File Types tab and scroll down until you find DOC, DOCM, DOCX etc and make sure that they are associated with MS Word.

I right click 'start' to get 'Windows Explorer', I don't see a menu bar with tools in it to click. I'm obviously in the wrong place or blind. I clicked everything that came up looking for tools. I'm missing something basic or my software is. Suggestions? I'm reading a word 2007 book but haven't found anything yet.

Think it's different in Windows 7. Have a look here: http://www.winvistaclub.com/t19.html

    I got it to work:
rt clk 'start', select 'control panal', select 'default programs, select 'associate ..', select '.docx', select 'change program', select 'MS office word', select 'ok', select 'close'
and now it works: .docx files come up in word.
    Thanks everyone.
