i was working on a standard file, and closed and saved it. then moved it to a folder, that had same name (older) file in it. When asked to overwrite I don't know what I did, but not the right thing, as now I only have the older version and I am bummed. Looked in several places, but can't find it, like I opened word again, and saw list of recent files, but not there. Any ideas?
If the copying/moving process kept the old file, the new one's probably in the same folder with '(2)' after the filename. If it isn't, then unless the file's still in the old folder or you've kept a backup somewhere, your file is probably lost forever. You could try some file recovery software but, given that the alternative is that you've actually overwritten the new file with the older one, I wouldn't rate your chances very highly.
