Find & Replace: How to find abbreviations or words written in capital words in text

I wanted to find all abbreviations in my thesis. So I think if I can find a command for find and replace which returns all capital letter words in the text as highlighted then I can easily browse through the text to check which abbreviations I have used. I tried to play with wildcards in MS Word, but they are way out of my league.

I am using MS Word 2007.

Looking forward to your kind help.

Ensure Use Wildcards is checked on the Find dialog and then use this reg expression.

(<[A-Z][A-Z0-9]{1,100}>)

Should find words that are 2 to 101 characters in length. All upper case but can contain numbers. First characters is Letter A thru Z.

Dear Andy Pope

Thank you very much for your reply. If I want to find only letters than should I use it like this
(<[A-Z]{1,100}>) and also what should I write in the replace box. Should I use the same expression with selecting highlight from format?

You would need to research regular expression, I no expert in that field.

What would you replace any finds you locate with? Are you just reverting to lowercase?

Hi Neo4u44,

Use a wildcard Find, where:
Find = <[A-Z]{2,}
The '2' tells word to ignore single-letter capital words like 'A', 'I', etc.
Cheers,
