Link Excel to Word using Relative Links

    Hello All,

I originally posted this to the excel forum and the reply I got was to post it here. Here is a link to the original post.

Is it possible to link an Excel chart and Excel table to Word using relative links in Excel 2007? I have been looking for a solution to this all day and not found a good one yet. I would like to have a template report in word that references a template master calcs spreadsheet for various charts and tables. And, I would like to be able to copy and paste these documents from one folder and put them into another folder without loosing the links.

I know I can right-click on the chart and hit "links", then change source. But, I have a lot of charts and this would take a while. Also, sometimes it reformats the chart, so I have to modify the size to get it to fit correctly again. Does anybody have a good why of accomplishing this? Perhaps some vba code that applies the root of the link path with a variable? I looked for that option too but couldn't find a reliable why of accessing the file path in word using vba. The simple example files I have been using to figure this out are attached. Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks

You can't have relative paths in LINK fields (which is what Word uses in this case). Other kinds of field pointing to external files can, though. To see how to implement relative paths for LINK fields, check out the macro-based solution I've posted at:
