confusion with merge and field codes

Hey,

Is there any difference between merge and field codes or are they the same thing?

Also help me to understand this questions:
-- Save this document showing the merge and field codes as (Filename) in a format that keeps the merge code information.

How do i save "in a format that keeps the merge code information".

Also, in another question it says to print the document showing merge and field codes. I have attached two .pdf documents. Please tell me which is the correct one.

Hello,

there are many, many field codes in Word, one of them is the MERGEFIELD, which needs the name of the field to be merged as a parameter, for example

{ MERGEFIELD Company }

Another field that is in your document is { DATE }. This is independent of your merge source.

222.pdf shows the merge and field codes. 111.pdf shows the merge fields, but not the codes. You can toggle between these views by hitting Alt-F9.

Please check whether I understood or not:

1) { MERGEFIELD Company } ==> this shows field/merge code

2) «Company» ==> this is just the field with no codes

If I am asked to "print the document showing field codes", i will go with the way shown in option 1 -- right?
