OK, I'm totally stumped.

We're using Access 2010 and we're running a database that I think is as old as Access itself (it was created way back when years began with 19, and has simply been added to over passed several decades) and have now been upgraded to Access 2010. There were a few initial hiccups, but we've got things working nicely. To be honest, the whole thing should be stripped back and re-created as an Access 2010 database, but that would take months, so I'm working with what I have.

Our database uses a specially created workgroup to allow different levels of access (really need a different word, but can't think of one) and Access 2010 has done away with the simple Workgroup Administrator menu options. The only way to connect to the workgroup is by creating a macro. This I have done (I created a standalone database with a single Workgroup macro in it) and have managed to get all staff with full versions of Access onto the database.

Now, a member of staff has asked to have access to our database and I've discovered that she only has Runtime on her laptop not a full version of Access. I've tried the macro trick, but RUntime doesn't recognise the .accdb file extension.

My fall back trick is to copy the workgroup (the .mdw file) and replace the System.mdw file on the machine directly, but our IT department (in their infinite wisdom) have locked everything on the harddrive down so even that doesn't work.

So, cut back to the bare bones, my dilemma is that I have a member of staff with Runtime Access that I need to give access to our database but to do that I need to connect them to our custom workgroup, which I can't do.

Any ideas?
