Access "You Do Not Have Exclusive Access to This Database" when linked with Excel

So I currently have an Access database and an Excel workbook that are linked. When Excel is closed, I am able to work freely in Access; however, when Excel is opened, I get the error message stating "You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time". Does anyone know how I can avoid this problem? Or why it is happening? I am just looking for a way to efficiently link the two programs without any trouble.

I appreciate you sharing that link. The only thing I am concerned with is that the link you directed me to was dealing with a refresh of the connection upon opening. In my case, I need the connection to refresh multiple times throughout the day. I'm not sure how to alter the code to take multiple refreshes into account. Any ideas?
