Am I wasting my time is there another language I should learn for Access scripts

We are a small business using Excel to manage our inventory over time I learned a bit of VBA programming with hopes to upgrade our database to a Access based database.
I was talking to a programmer the other day and he told me that new Access which is web base no longer supports VBA.

Am I wasting my time is there another language I should learn for writing scripts for Access database except for VBA?

I think you should perhaps learn to use Access before worrying about programming in it. You don't need programming to build a database in access, if anything you want to learn SQL.

Also Access isn't just web based, you can have desktop databases too

I am indeed planning on learning how to use Access
However since I’m very familiar with Excel I am learning VBA for Excel and found out that there’s nothing like solving real life problems to get you be familiar with VBA programming.
That being said is it true that Microsoft is planning to retire VBA for Access if so what is going to replace VBA for Access?

Its not that Microsoft is planning to retire VBA for Access.
VBA is just not Supported in Online Databases (Sharepoint)
As Long as you have a Local Database everything is fine with VBA. (local means its not Online can still be on a network Drive)
But as Kyle mentioned you don't need VBA in most cases to learn SQL is more important.

Another Solition would be to Store your Data in a Database like MSSQL/Mysql/Oracle and then use Excel as frontend.
in my Opinion that is in most cases the best Solution cause you have your Data saved in a central place and have the Flexibility of Excel as Frontend (Worksheets,Forms,Charts,VBA)
For Small projects for just a Few users i would go with access

Actually new access (2013) online does use SQL server rather than Sharepoint lists
