Crosstab Query for Sum of Time field

I have a table with two date/time fields. (Stime and ETime)
I am trying to create a cross tab query based on this table where the row heading is User, Column Heading is positions. The value field need to be sum of the elapsed time from the stime and etime field. I can base this query from a select query where I have already finding the elapsed time in hh:nn:ss format through a function.
Any help would be appreciated. If I try to do a sum on the elapsedtime field from my select query, Access throws an error "Datatype mismatch....."

you have the function defined as a STRING, you cant add strings.
it must be DATE.
