    Access alternatives

Whenever I have Microsoft Access open to read mdb documents, it brings the whole system operation to a crawl. Forget about using a browser whenever that program is open; it slows everything down. So I am looking for some mdb opening alternatives..

    Thanks in advance!

You can try some mdb viewer?! try google it & you will get some free software just to view with minimal editing options.

I am using MDB Viewer Plus. Same as mentioned (than_gold). Its a viewer plus editor for Microsoft Access MDB and Accdb database files.

    Re: Access alternatives

What you describe makes no sense unless:

    1. Something is running behind the scenes in your Access application as expressed in the .MDB file

    2. You have VERY SMALL system memory.

    3. You have allocated and manually locked down the maximum virtual memory size (swap space).

Once an MDB is open, if it is not doing anything except waiting for you, then it is dormant. If you have enough system memory, you would never be able to tell it was there but dormant. Therefore it is unlikely to be dormant. If you have at least an 8 GB system then you should be OK for anything that Access would use. All that would be left is to see if there is some sort of timer code running underneath the database when you open it.
