Calculating Max of Sub-records for Main Record

I have a table with main records and another related table that are Sub-Records of the main. The sub-records are tasks with start and finish dates for each task. I would like to find the total time to complete the main record by getting the earliest start date and latest finish date for each task and the calculating the difference. what would be the easiest way to do this? I can't find a way to do it via calculated field.

Ensure you describe your problem clearly, I have little time available to solve these problems and do not appreciate numerous changes to them.

I don't know your exact setup, but something like this:

Here my_record is the field that you have time records against, and start and end are the date columns that presumably have multiple entries against the individual records from the main table. The "d" part of the DateDiff function can be changed to whatever unit you want for the time elapsed unit. "d" being days.
