    Update Query Advice

    Hi,

I have a table of data in access with circa 20 fields and perhaps 1000 rows of data. This data has been replicated into excel files which a Mobile team are validating the data in the field. I will receive 10 excel files back from the team which needs to update my table.

What is the best way to update my table? I don’t wish to go through creating an update query for each file I get per week as the only way i know how to do this is rather longwinded?

I am hoping and i have no doubt there is easy way to doing this.

    Thank you for reading

    Regards,

    GC1

    Re: Update Query Advice

Will the excel files you receive back contain all of the correct data and should replace the existing table in total? Also, is this an ongoing exercise or a one time event? I think we need a bit more information on the specifics of this project. I have some ideas but will need to understand your situation better.

    Hi alansidman,

Thanks for taking an interest in my post.

Will the excel files you receive back contain all of the correct data and should replace the existing table in total?
That is the plan, the assumption is the data I receive will be complete and can overwrite/update the master. the link between the tables is "AssetID".

Also, is this an ongoing exercise or a one time event?
This will be an ongoing exercise and will be for many similar projects that I work on. I would really like to understand the mechanics behind the possible solutions so that I can edit it to meet future requirements.

    Many Thanks,

    Re: Update Query Advice

What does this mean?--> Will it overwrite the existing data in totality? This is important to understand. If this is the case, then I would take the returned excel sheets and append them to each other using Power Query/Get and Transform. A very quick and easy thing to do. Then I would run a bit of VBA to remove all data in the Access table. Finally, I would import the consolidated table to Access. The whole process would take only minutes.
