Carry over Formatting from Excel to Access

    Dear all

My Access Table is fed by an attached Excel Sheet.
What I would like is that the formatting in Excel (Fonts in particular) are also carried over to Access.

    How can I achieve this?

    Many thanks
    FD

This is not a feature that is available.

Tables in Access are not for viewing. They are repositories of information. Users should not be allowed to see data in tables. You should be viewing data either in a form, a query or a report.

    Hi alansidman

    Sorry, I should have elaborated:
There of course is a form generated from the table.
What I would like to achieve is the fields in the form to have the same formatting as the originating cell in Excel.

You will have to set that in the properties for each of the forms controls. Right click on the control in design view and properties. Click on the format tab and set your formatting for each.

So this means when a user has set C3 in Excel to Bold Red Font, but C4 is Bold Black Font I cannot have Access display the same colors in the respective form?

That is correct. Because your table is linked to the spreadsheet and there is no formatting in tables, it is only grabbing the raw data. Likewise it does not bring over formulae, just the data. If there is conditional logic to the formatting, you can apply that to the form. Conditional formatting is available in Access in forms and Reports, but I don't believe that this would be true if the form is in datasheet view. Then I believe that there is no formatting available.

It's just like Excel, if you have a formula that pulls a value from another cell you only get the value, not the formatting.
If posting code please use code tags, see here.

Re: Carry over Formatting from Excel to Access

    Thanks for your explanations

Would you have any suggestion how to achieve what I need?

Basicly what I have is a list/table (master data) with loads of different fields.
    One Line = One Record
The file contains a couple of thousand lines.

So, each of these records need to be loaded into a form - with formatting to be picked up from the respecitve value in the master data.

If you want to 'pick' the formatting from the cells then you'll need to populate the form cell by cell using code, you won't be able to use a table.
