    Conditional formatting in Excel 2007

    Hi,

I am having a problem when trying to add conditional formatting to an Excel 2007 spreadsheet. I am using the format painter to to copy the formatting of a few cells at a time and when I try to paint the formatting on to other cells, it produces an error message saying "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications."

I get this message even when only painting 1 or 2 cells at a time and when all other applications on my laptop are closed. My laptop has 8 GB of RAM.

I would appreciate any help with this.

Hello & Welcome to the Forum,

It could be something within that particular workbook.

Does this happen with other workbooks?

It does happen with other workbooks. I even tried a blank workbook but the problem still happened.

Not so sure, but maybe somebody else has an idea. One or two cells does not make sense.

I take it that you have not had a problem in the past? It has just started happening recently? What has changed? Have you added anything? Applications, add-ins, whatever?

It's probably unfair to generalise and point the finger, but the Skype Click to Call Add-in has been having odd effects, particularly visible with Copy and Paste in Excel. I experienced this personally and I wasn't very happy about it. This may be another symptom.

If you have recently upgraded Skype and/or installed Skype Click to Call, I would suggest you uninstall the Add-in.

What format is it saved in? try resaving it in .xlsx and see if it still happens.

Do you have colour fill or borders which have been set to fill full columns or rows rather than the active part of the worksheet?
