Creating scatter plot with mean/ SD error bars

Hi!

I need to create some vertical scatter plots ie where all the y values are in the same line, and also to put on the mean and standard deviation error bars, like the example i found below. I have managed to plot the scatter by giving all the y values in each group the same x value, but i dont know how to proceed. Thanks!

Hi, aldo2014.

It sounds like you're trying to create an SPC chart. Do you know which type of chart you need; i.e. X-bar and R, X-bar and s, np, p, u, or c? The formulae for each of those chart types is different in terms of how you calculate the center and Upper and Lower Control Limits.

You can still use my spreadsheet as an example of how to build the chart. Unhide one of the "Support" tabs for any of the bar charts and you'll see how I did it. Once I calculate the center for the chart and the upper and lower control limits, I simply copy the one number for each into a column of as many rows as necessary to cover all the data points. Then, I point my chart at each set of columns, which creates a straight line on the chart. I the edit the chart properties for each data set so you don't see the "dots" of the same number (just looks like a solid or dashed line).

You'd do the same thing, only you'd flip the axes. Open my workbook, unhide a support tab, and then right click a corresponding chart and pick it apart to see the relationship.
