    Pivot table grouping problem

    Hi,

I had a workbook in Excel 2003 that i just moved to 2010. In the 2003 file I had 2 pivot tables, one each on a worksheet, looking at the same data, just grouped differently. One yearly, one quarterly.

Now in the 2010 workbook whenever I change the grouping on pivot table, the other one changes also. It's like they are linked together or something.

    What am I missing here?

    Thanks!

Sounds like they're sharing a pivotcache. Try clicking on one of them, press Alt+DP to invoke the pivot wizard and then reassign the data range - if prompted to use the same cache, say no. (If that doesn't help, repeat but selecting the other pivot)

You may also be able to simply group by both year and quarter and then choose whichever group field you want for each pivot table.

OK. This worked if I changed the data range, but as soon as I changed the range back again (I need the same range for both) then they lock stepped together again.

I never ran into this in 2003.

Any solution for using the same data range but yet wanting 2 different ptable groupings?

    Thanks!

Solved it. I just needed to do the change on both tables. Put the wizard on the QA bar. Thanks.
