    Dynamic timeline

    Hi guys

I'm new. I've had no formal excel training but I am normally able to puzzle things out for myself with some deft Googling.

I am at a loss so far though for something I thought would be simple.

Essentially I need to develop something that will effectively function as a room booking service (not my situation but the concept can be applied to my task). I had imagined a single line stacked bar graph with each series title within each section of the stacks. As time goes on, I need to be able to add to it so I can effectively schedule the 'rooms' without anything clashing, and with a short description associated with each so that I can identify who has what room when.

So far everything I have attempted has been some variation of the following data:

    data.JPG

I had envisioned something like this.

    demo.JPG

Ideally I would have a new graph for each month of the year, drawing data from another sheet to create a visual representation of availability. I can do all that I just need to know how it should work in principle.

I know there is better software out there for managing this but I need the solution in Excel for internal reasons.

    Thanks for your help guys.

EDIT: I am using Excel 2010

    Hi
Not sure why you want a graph!!!! I have enclosed a simple sample as to how I would approach it. When you enter text in any cell conditional formatting will turn it Yellow to indicate the room is not available.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Tony

Thanks for your input. I'm afraid I need a stacked bar graph for internal reasons.
