    Chart data and layout issues

Hi, I am new to excel, and learning as I go. After watching several videos and guides I am stumped on how to get the worksheet below to transition into a 100% stacked bar graph, preferably with x and y axis data reversed, if possible. The formatting always comes out scrambled and I have tried typing it out into excel as is, straight across, etc and do not know how the heck to get it to accurately show categories of Date, income, expenses and planned and actual amounts for income and expenses. Even when doing this with just a default chart data will not show or is all jumbled. Any advice on how to do this would be greatly appreciated!

Here's somethin for you to start with. It would have been easier if you had attached a spreadsheet, rather thanan image (remember that for next time). This will get you started.

You can (of course) hide the text in "Chart" if you don't want to see it.

Re: Chart data and layout issues

I filled out both ways I did it before, and did a sample with your format. Your format seems to solve a lot of issues. Now I am just wondering how I could get the chart to show which bars represent income and expenses. The date too such as month and year is giving me a lot of pain as you see from my other attempts at this. I only need the chart to show the date one time on the chart. Also, I do not know why Excel does not like the original layout from the picture but if there is a way to use that layout to make this chart I am very interested in knowing. Thank you for your help Glenn.

Not sure why graph will not show both income and expenses planned and actual budget on same graph will on separate graphs though. Anyone have ideas?
