Special Scatter

I have 100 rows of data whereby the first spreadsheet column has 1 of 4 values (category A, B, C, or D), and the second column is a variable number of weeks. I want to create a scatter diagram whereby I have 100 dots, in four columns (representing the 4 categories) with the vertical axis being the weeks. I should then see 4 vertical clusters of dots with a bit of intensity around the average number of weeks in each of the 4 columns.

When I try to create this, the horizontal axis comes out as 1 to 100 rather than the 4 categories.

Is there a way to accomplish this?

Sure you did not create a line chart?

Thanks for the reply Andy. I selected the "scatter" chart option. Here's the test sample.

You need to assign a value to the letter group as charts can not plot text.
By default the point of the x data value is being used, hence the 1 to 100.

I have added extra series in order to label the x axis with letter.
