How to plot bar chart (time progression) like this ?

Hi,

I need to plot a progress bar chart indicating what is the duration taken for each product and waiting time before next product continues.

Have been trying to create the chart but no luck getting it right. I am not able to create it in 1 row. I believe I need to tweak the data and format it to the way that Excel can interpret it.

Hope can get some suggestions on how I should be formatting my data.

Please refer to the attachment on how the chart should looks like. What should I call this type of chart ? Bar chart ?

Hi,

The sample chart (in the uploaded image) looks like a Gantt Chart. Please post a sample template of your workbook using "Go Advanced" option if you need any further help on creating a Gantt Chart.

I do not have any template but I need to create the chart in Business Object rather than Excel. Normally, I will try to prepare the data and create the series needed in Excel.

Then, I will model exactly the data set in Business Object to create the chart needed. If it can be done in Excel, it should be do-able in other charting platform. We might need to apply some logic in the data points to provide what we want. That's the missing link I have right now.

Almost there but I need to move all data points up to only 2 rows on the Y axis. Got to figure out how to do the data manipulation.product.JPGserver.JPG

That's good! Now you just have to get the row labels down to 2

Please post the sample template in excel format rather than image.

I can't find upload Excel File button.

But here's my dataset.

1)Just copy and paste in Excel,
2) Highlight column A and click Text to Column
3) Change to comma delimiter - ","
4) Then, Next Next Next Finish

I think it will be easier for me to introduce new column and re-arrange the data to fit in the chart. Can't find the correct combination.

thanks a lot. I think my understanding on the series and select data not strong. got to find some tutorial to boost my knowledge.

i feel that the data set needs to be formatted. but what you produced, gave me some ideas already. thanks.

what i will do now ...

for example
C1, P1
C1, P1 + (P2-P1) + P2
C1, P1 + (P2-P1) + P2 + (P3-P2) + P3

Assuming the 3 data points above for C1 ... what I do is to plot extra point to push the bar out.
Maybe it will works.
