Switching the x and y axis

    Hello,

I'm trying to make a clustered bar chart and I have two columns of data. One column has names and the second column has the percentage of a test score. When I make the chart, excell always puts a general percentage range (0-100%) on the x axis and the names on the y axis, but I want the percentage range to go on the y axis. When I hit the "switch row/column" button it puts the names in the legend but keeps the percentage range on the x axis. I've tried transposing the data but that doesn't help either.

This is probably a simple question, but I can't figure it out

Sounds like you want Cluster column chart rather than an issue with your data layout.

I'm kind of reading between the lines here, but I think what you want is a column chart, not a bar chart.

In casual use, we play loose and careless with some terms, and this is one of them. We call both types of chart "bar" chart, but, to experts in charting (including the MS Excel programmers), they are very careful to distinguish between bar and column charts.

So, try changing your chart type to clustered column and see if that is what you want.

Apparently I was doing a clustered column but needed a bar chart. Thanks for highlighting the difference, it seems to be doing what I need it to do now. I'm clearly an amateur
