    Automate marker options in spreadsheet?

    I have a scatter plot in which there are, for example, twenty plotted points representing one of three major categories.

    We're using a red square, green triangle and blue circle to represent our categories on the graph. Going in to every plot point and manually changing each point so that it has the proper color and style is very time consuming.

    Is there a way to designate in the spreadsheet (in its own column or something) that I always want the plot point to be represented in a certain way (like a red square) when graphed?

    1.Click on the Scatter Point of which you want to format ( Select )----Right Click---Format Data Series----Marker Option--Tick the Built In Option Box--Change the Type and size

    2. Again Select ---Marker Fill----Solied Fill --- and Change the color accordingly

    Thanks, but I'm looking for a way to avoid having to go into the graph and manually change the points. Is there no way to designate it in the spreadsheet?

    Hi emergencyfan,

    Try the attached file. It will allow you to select the following Marker items for a Scatter Plot:
    a. Color
    b. Size
    c. Marker Type (Square, Triangle, Circle or Diamond)

    If you have macros enabled, and you have this file opened, you should even be able to run this macro from a .xlsx file.

    This does require you to manually set the formatting for each of the groups, but once set any changes in the source data will be automatic.
